Hi there. I’m Lu Fong and I’m a freelance writer with orbiting interests in science, technology, narrative structure, puns, and people.
Things I do (and can do for you!)
Blog. I’ve done it here, professionally, and I’ve been reblogged by the Huffington Post and Jezebel among others. I have a distinctive voice but I’m quick to adapt to different styles. I’m also comfortable with Wordpress, SEO, and social media promotion.
Make media. Video, audio, photography, design-work, infographics — I do it all because stories should be immersive (and I’m indecisive). I've edited raw footage for social documentaries and pursued my own long-term multimedia projects. Technical skills include Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator, Finalcut Pro, ProTools, and Soundslides. I’ve also dabbled in Flash and stop-motion animation.
Traditional reporting, editing, and research. Cold calls are cake and I eat online research for breakfast. I'm currently freelancing at Curiosity.com, a Discovery affiliate, where I research write articles about anything from robots to genetics to bipolar disorder. As a publishing and editorial assistant here and here (with a stint in daily newspaper reporting) I’ve done my fair share of fact-checking, interviewing and background research. I even founded a narrative journalism magazine in college.
